Hantavirus isn’t COVID or the flu – it spreads very differently

Hantavirus is not COVID-19 nor seasonal flu; it spreads in a completely different way and can cause serious illness. The World Health Organization (WHO) has issued guidance on virus transmission and possible risks, reports Klankosova.tv “Sometimes they develop very severe disease, which includes serious respiratory illness,” says Dr. Maria van Kerkhove. "There may be coughing, there may be some aerosol procedures that could be performed, certainly we would need a higher level of care there. This is not COVID, this is not the flu, it spreads very, very differently". The WHO adds that it is supporting ship operators with the mitigation measures they are implementing on board. "We are working to have proper and comprehensive step‑by‑step disembarkation procedures to support the authorities in the Canary Islands for the next phase of people on board," says Kerkhove. /Klankosova.tv
