Police chief Afrim Tafa was dismissed following a fatal crash that killed two children, prompting the state police to resume patrols in Durrës despite a prior order to withdraw them.

Just under two days after being suspended, Durrës Police chief Afrim Tafa was removed from office. The main reason was his poor performance following the serious accident that killed two children. Tafa, appointed to the post by former chief of police Ilir Proda, had led the Durrës police for about three and a half months.
The crash occurred in Durrës, where the drunk 57‑year‑old Nikollë Radaçi lost control of his vehicle and fatally struck two children. The incident sparked harsh reactions and led to the immediate suspension of the local police chief.
As part of the post‑accident response, the State Police announced the return of patrols to the streets to stop drivers who break traffic rules. This follows an earlier order issued on April 10 by Hita, which had ordered the removal of patrols from inter‑urban roads and instructed traffic police not to stop vehicle drivers.
